My Father Kept Me Wheelchair-Bound Until a Poor Boy Revealed the Dark Secret
A Request Under the Chandelier
The air in the grand ballroom of the Vance estate was thick with the scent of expensive perfume and champagne. Under the massive crystal chandelier, hundreds of wealthy guests chatted in hushed, polite tones. But all eyes kept drifting back to Audrey. Draped in a periwinkle blue silk gown, she sat in her motorized wheelchair, a beautiful but tragic centerpiece for her father’s annual charity gala. Beside her stood William Vance, her father, looking immaculate in his custom tuxedo, his chest puffed with protective pride.
Suddenly, the heavy mahogany doors swung open. A young man stepped into the light. He wore a tattered grey blazer, faded jeans, and boots scuffed with dust. The music faltered, and a wave of shocked whispers washed over the crowd. It was Mason. Security moved to intercept him, but Mason bypassed them with quiet determination, walking straight toward the center of the room.
He stopped right in front of Audrey. Without a word, he knelt on the polished marble floor, looking up at her with intense, familiar eyes.
"Please. Let me dance with her,"he pleaded softly.
William’s face instantly twisted with rage. He stepped forward, placing himself between Mason and his daughter.
"Step away from my daughter,"William growled, his voice carrying a dangerous edge.
Mason stood up, refusing to be intimidated.
"She wants to dance,"he replied defiantly.
William sneered, looking down at the young man's worn clothing.
"Why should I trust you?"he demanded, his voice echoing in the silent hall.
Mason looked past William, his gaze softening as he met Audrey's tear-filled eyes.
"Because she's been waiting,"he answered quietly. He extended his hand to her.
"Take my hand."
”He extended his hand to her. "Take my hand."
