A Dream Wedding Shattered

The afternoon sun cast a warm, golden glow over the manicured estate garden. It was supposed to be the happiest day of Clara’s life. Wearing a stunning midnight blue dress and a matching dark grey hat, she stood near the floral archway, looking down at her future stepson, Leo. The eight-year-old boy looked incredibly dapper in his slate blue suit, his small hand clasped tightly in hers. They were waiting for Julian, Clara’s fiancé, to finish a quick call before the ceremony began.

Clara squeezed Leo's hand, offering a reassuring smile. "We're going to be a real family now, Leo," she whispered. The boy smiled back, his eyes bright with excitement. But the warm, serene atmosphere of the golden hour was about to be violently shattered.

Creeping up from behind them was Evelyn, Julian’s wealthy and domineering mother. Dressed in a sharp, light tan blazer, Evelyn’s face was twisted in a mask of pure rage. She had never approved of Clara, a middle-class woman she deemed unworthy of her family’s status. But Evelyn's hatred ran far deeper than mere snobbery—Clara had recently uncovered a dark secret that Evelyn would do anything to keep hidden.

Before Clara could register the shadow falling over her, Evelyn raised a heavy, unopened champagne bottle. With a sickening force, she brought it down onto the back of Clara’s head. A festive burst of confetti from a nearby table decoration exploded into the air as Clara gasped, her vision instantly turning to darkness. She collapsed heavily onto the manicured grass.

Julian, hearing the commotion, came running past the hedges in his wedding suit, his face pale with horror. Leo screamed in sheer panic, dropping to his knees beside Clara.

"Please wake up, help me, help me!"

The little boy's voice cracked with hysterical tears as he hugged Clara's limp body, his small hands trembling against her stained dress. The dream wedding had become a horrific crime scene.
