A Smug Soldier Tried to Humiliate Me, But He Forgot Who I Was
The Mist in the Barracks
The steam in the base shower room was thick enough to swallow the harsh fluorescent lights, turning the concrete and tile space into a humid, misty maze. Sergeant Amanda Vance let out a slow, heavy sigh as she wrapped a standard-issue white towel around herself. Her auburn hair was pinned up, damp tendrils clinging to her neck. Against her bare collarbone, her metal dog tags clinked softly—a quiet reminder of the eight years of blood, sweat, and absolute dedication she had poured into her service. She was exhausted after a grueling twelve-hour field exercise, and all she wanted was to return to her quarters.
But as she stepped out of the stall, her path was abruptly blocked. Tyler, a newly transferred recruit with a blond buzz cut and an ego that far outpaced his rank, stood in the doorway. He was shirtless, wearing only his green combat trousers, dripping wet and flanked by three of his squadmates. A mocking, arrogant smirk was plastered across his face as he looked Amanda up and down, deliberately refusing to yield the corridor.

"You think a towel makes you untouchable?" Tyler sneered, his voice echoing off the damp tiles.
The other recruits chuckled, leaning against the walls to watch the show. They expected Amanda to shrink back, to apologize, or to plead for passage. Instead, Amanda’s gaze turned to absolute ice. She didn't flinch. She didn't retreat. She simply took a half-step forward, her eyes locking onto his with deadly intensity.
"That's your first mistake," Amanda replied, her voice dangerously calm.
Before Tyler could even register the threat, Amanda moved with blinding speed. In one fluid, combat-trained motion, she swept Tyler’s legs out from under him. As he crashed backward, she caught him, driving her heel into his chest and pinning him brutally against the slick tiled wall by his throat. Tyler’s eyes went wide with sudden, choking terror as he clawed at her arm, gasping for breath.
"Hey, get off!" Tyler choked out, his arrogance evaporating in an instant.
Amanda held him pinned, her face inches from his. Behind them, the other soldiers stood frozen in absolute shock. "You don't get to decide who's weak," she whispered fiercely, letting the silence of the room amplify her words.
