He Humiliated Me in Front of the Entire Squadron, Then My True Rank Was Revealed
A Hostile Welcome
The atmosphere inside the tiered military lecture hall was thick with anticipation. Rows of seated personnel in olive-green flight suits sat under the harsh, cool-toned fluorescent lights, preparing for one of the most critical mission briefings of the year. Samantha Vance stepped through the heavy double doors, her flight helmet tucked securely under her left arm. She was a seasoned pilot, her reddish-brown hair pulled back into a tight, regulation-compliant bun. She scanned the room for an open seat, her expression calm and professional.
But before she could take a step down the aisle, a loud, arrogant voice cut through the low hum of conversation. Lieutenant Cole Miller, a thirty-three-year-old pilot with a brown crew cut and a reputation for bravado, stood up from his seat. He pointed a finger directly at Samantha, a smug grin spreading across his face.

He threw his head back, letting out a loud, mocking laugh that echoed off the concrete walls. A few of his peers chuckled nervously, while others shifted uncomfortably in their seats. The disrespect was palpable, designed to humiliate her in front of the entire squadron. But Samantha didn't flinch. She stood her ground, her posture straight and her gaze ice-cold. She looked Cole dead in the eye, completely unmoved by his childish display.
blockquote>"Are you finished, Lieutenant?" Samantha asked, her voice cool and steady.Cole’s grin soured into a sneer. He didn't like her lack of reaction. Wanting to assert his dominance, he leaned forward, crossing his arms over his chest.
blockquote>"Go fetch coffee before the real mission starts," Cole retorted, dismissing her with a wave of his hand.Samantha didn't argue. She simply walked to the back of the room and stood quietly, waiting for the arrival of the commanding officer. Cole smirked, confident he had put the newcomer in her place.
