Previously: When an arrogant lieutenant tried to humiliate Samantha in front of the entire squadron, he thought she was just an assistant. He had no idea who she really was.

The General's Announcement

The tense silence in the briefing room was suddenly broken by the sharp click of the doors opening. General Harrison, a stern-faced man with a chest full of medals, walked into the room. Instantly, every pilot snapped to attention, their backs rigid. Cole stood at the front, chest puffed out, eager to impress the commanding officer.

"At ease," General Harrison said, stepping up to the podium. He adjusted his glasses and looked out over the crowd. "Before we begin today's tactical briefing, I have a major announcement. As you know, this mission requires a highly specialized leader. Today, I am introducing your new Squadron Leader and Commanding Officer."

Cole smirked, leaning slightly toward his buddy. He assumed the role would go to a senior officer he already knew—or perhaps even himself. He was completely unprepared for what the General said next.

"She is one of the most decorated tactical pilots in the entire branch, with over five hundred combat hours and multiple commendations," General Harrison announced, his voice booming. He turned his gaze toward the back of the room. "Major Samantha Vance, please step forward."

The entire room seemed to hold its breath as Samantha walked down the center aisle. Her boots clicked rhythmically against the floor. As she passed Cole's row, the arrogant Lieutenant's face went completely pale. The color drained from his cheeks, and his jaw dropped in sheer disbelief. The "sweetie" he had just ordered to get coffee was his new superior officer.

Samantha took her place next to General Harrison, her expression completely unreadable. She looked down at Cole, who was now sweating profusely under the bright lights, his hands trembling slightly at his sides.

"Major Vance will have total operational authority over this mission," the General concluded, looking at the stunned faces. "Are there any questions before we begin?"
