My Estranged Father Tried to Ruin My Wedding, But My Rank Stopped Him Cold
The Walk of Honor
The heavy oak doors of the St. Jude Gothic Cathedral swung open, letting in a flood of brilliant afternoon sunlight. The air inside was cool and carried the faint scent of aged wood and incense. High above, towering stone arches met in majestic peaks, while the stained-glass windows painted the polished stone aisle in rich hues of crimson, sapphire, and gold. Patricia stood at the entrance, taking a deep, steadying breath. She was in her late thirties, her dark-blonde hair styled in an elegant, military-compliant updo. But she wasn't wearing a traditional bridal gown. Instead, she wore her pristine white Navy dress uniform, her chest adorned with ribbons and the stars of an Admiral gleaming on her shoulders.
As she began her walk down the aisle, her steps were measured and precise. On either side, a formal honor guard of young sailors stood at attention. It was a beautiful sight, but as Patricia looked ahead, her eyes caught a figure standing to the side of the pews. It was George, her estranged father. He was in his early sixties, his hair completely grey, wearing a dark dress uniform. He had retired years ago as a commander, a rank he had reached through ruthless ambition. He had abandoned Patricia and her mother twenty-two years ago, claiming that a family was a distraction to a true officer's career.

Now, he stood there, watching his daughter with a look that was a mixture of pride and deep-seated resentment. As Patricia drew level with him, George stepped forward slightly, breaking the solemn silence of the cathedral. He looked at her white uniform and whispered,
"A wedding isn't a place for rank."
It was a petty attempt to diminish her achievements, to make her feel like a child again. But Patricia didn't blink. Before she could even respond, the young lead guard noticed the interaction. Instantly, the honor guard snapped their rifles into a sharp, synchronized salute, the metal clicking loudly in the quiet space. The guard's voice barked out, echoing off the high stone ceiling:
"Admiral on deck!"Patricia stopped, turned slowly to face her father, and raised a crisp, flawless salute. George's face paled as the realization hit him: his abandoned daughter now outranked him.
