Margaret Vance adjusted the collar of her faded green windbreaker as she stepped into the dusty, fluorescent-lit shooting range. The familiar smell of gunpowder and gun oil washed over her, bringing back a flood of memories she had spent thirty years trying to bury. She walked quietly toward the registration desk, keeping her head down.

"This is not a retirement club, lady," a loud, mocking voice boomed across the room.

Margaret turned slightly. A young man, no older than twenty-three, stood in the lane next to her. He wore a pristine blue shooting vest, custom ear protection, and held a brand-new, high-end competitive pistol. His name was Luke, and he was currently the reigning local champion, a title he wore like a crown.

The other young competitors in the room chuckled, watching the silver-haired woman. Margaret didn't flinch. She simply walked to the counter, pulled out her old identification card, and slid it across the glass to Albert, the range official.

Without waiting for a response, she walked to an open lane, unzipped her worn canvas bag, and pulled out a classic, heavy revolver. Luke watched her, a smug grin plastered across his face.

"You might want to try the senior center down the road,"
he sneered.

Margaret didn't look at him. She raised the heavy weapon with a single, fluid motion. Her posture shifted instantly, her spine straightening, her eyes locking onto the target downrange.Bang. Bang. Bang. Bang. Bang.

Five deafening shots echoed through the indoor range in rapid, flawless succession.

When the target rolled back, there was only one hole in the dead center of the bullseye. She had grouped all five shots perfectly.

The room fell dead silent. Luke's smirk vanished, his eyes widening in disbelief.

Margaret slowly lowered her weapon, turned her head to face him, and said coolly, "I came here to compete."

At the desk, Albert stared at the registration screen. His hands trembled as he took off his reading glasses. "Impossible," he whispered, looking up at Margaret. "Wait... that name."

Her posture shifted instantly, her spine straightening, her eyes locking onto the target downrange.
