Reunion on the Wet Tarmac

The rain fell in a cold, relentless drizzle, slicking the tarmac of the police academy yard. A dozen officers stood in a tense line, their faces grim under the misty overcast sky. In the center of the yard stood Megan, her navy blue scrubs a stark contrast to the dark tactical gear surrounding her. She had been summoned under the pretense of a veterinary emergency, but the moment she saw the setup, she knew it was a trap designed by her ex-fiancé, Officer David.

Suddenly, the heavy iron gates of the kennel creaked open. David marched out, his face strained as he struggled to control four massive German Shepherds. Zeus, Shadow, Thor, and Bella were lunging wildly, their powerful jaws snapping at the air. David’s knuckles were white as he gripped the leather leashes, his boots sliding on the wet asphalt. Sensing Megan's presence, the dogs let out a series of ferocious, deafening barks and broke free from David's grip, charging straight toward her.

"Pull them back, now!" David screamed, his voice cracking with sheer panic as he tumbled onto the wet ground.

The onlookers braced for a violent attack, but Megan didn't flinch. She stood her ground, her eyes locking onto the lead dog, Zeus. In an instant, the transformation was breathtaking. The moment the dogs reached her, their aggressive snarls melted into soft, desperate whines. They pressed their massive bodies against her legs, forming an impenetrable, protective shield around her. They were guarding her, not attacking.

David slowly rose from the wet pavement, his face pale with shock as he pointed a trembling finger.

"They're... they're guarding her?" he stammered, his eyes wide in disbelief.

Beside him, Officer Taylor watched in utter amazement, whispering to the captain,

"How did she do that?"

Megan slowly raised her right hand, making a subtle, commanding gesture she had taught them years ago. Immediately, all four dogs sat in perfect unison, their eyes locked on her with absolute devotion. Walking right past David, she looked at him with cold disdain.

"They were never yours to control," Megan said coldly, her voice cutting through the damp air.
