The Oregon woods were silent save for the rustling of pine needles and the distant chirp of a bird. In a clearing decorated with white hydrangea arches and dark oak benches, a crowd of eighty guests sat in stunned, uncomfortable silence. Right in the middle of the aisle, sitting on a raised platform, was a glossy black casket wrapped in a large crimson ribbon.

It was supposed to be a bold, artistic statement. Nicholas and Lauren, known for their dark humor, wanted to take the vow "till death do us part" to its literal extreme. Standing behind the casket, Nicholas looked dashing in his tailored black tuxedo, his neat brown beard perfectly trimmed. Lauren was a vision in a sweetheart neck gown, her long blonde waves catching the dappled sunlight filtering through the canopy.

But as the minister began the wedding ceremony, the sheer absurdity of the scene caught up with them. Nicholas, trying to suppress a sudden tickle in his throat, let out a weird combination of a sneeze and a laugh, his leg kicking back awkwardly as he tried to maintain his balance.

Lauren caught his eye. The sight of her groom losing his composure was too much. She immediately brought her lush bouquet of eucalyptus and white roses to her face, her shoulders shaking as she tried to hide her hysterical giggles. For a brief moment, the solemn gravity of the wedding dissolved into pure, joyful chaos. The guests chuckled nervously, thinking it was just a lighthearted moment between a quirky couple.

But the laughter didn't last.

Just as Lauren lowered her bouquet, a heavy, metallic thud reverberated from the center of the aisle. The sound didn't come from the benches or the forest. It came directly from inside the glossy black casket.
