The Seed of Kindness

The warm, golden glow of Arthur’s bakery had been a sanctuary in the heart of the city for over forty years. Arthur, with his kind eyes and flour-dusted dark apron, lived by a simple code: no one ever left his shop hungry. One rainy afternoon, a little girl named Lily stood shivering outside the glass window, staring longingly at the fresh pastries. Her light green summer dress was damp, and tears silently rolled down her cheeks.

Arthur stepped outside, kneeling to her eye level. "Are you hungry, sweetheart?" he asked gently. He walked back inside and returned with a thick, warm sandwich wrapped in brown paper. Lily’s eyes widened, but she shrunk back.

"I don't have any money,"
she whispered, her voice cracking. Arthur simply smiled, placing the food in her hands along with a paper napkin stamped with his bakery's unique rustic logo. "It doesn't matter," he said softly. "One day, just help someone else."

Two decades flew by, and the city grew cold and corporate. High-rises choked out the small shops, and Arthur’s bakery fell into deep financial trouble. On the day of his final deadline, a ruthless corporate lawyer stood on the sidewalk, sneering at the elderly baker.

"Today is your final deadline, old man. Pack your things,"
the lawyer barked. But before Arthur could despair, a sleek black luxury SUV pulled up. Out stepped Lily, now a successful, elegant woman in a sharp emerald green pantsuit. She removed her sunglasses, handed Arthur the faded, stamped napkin she had kept for twenty years, and looked at the lawyer.
"Do the math,"
she said firmly.
"I will pay for everything."
