The Ancient Ravine

The Whispering Ravine had always been a place of shadows and old bones. On this gloomy afternoon, the thick fog clung to the sheer stone walls like a shroud, obscuring the sky above in a blanket of heavy, overcast gray. At the center of the deep gorge stood a massive, split rock, and embedded deep within its heart was a legendary weapon—the Whispering Blade. For generations, the sword had remained untouched, waiting for a worthy hand to free it.

Today, the silence of the ravine was shattered by the heavy clank of iron. The royal vanguard had arrived, led by Borin, a massive, blonde-bearded soldier clad in charcoal-colored plate mail that looked as heavy as the rock itself. Borin stepped forward, his eyes locked on the leather-bound hilt of the blade. He sneered at the gathering of local peasants who had been forced to guide them to the sacred site.

"Step back, you wretched lot," Borin boomed, his voice echoing off the stone walls. "This is a task for a true warrior, not dirt-grubbing farmers."

With a boastful grin, Borin wrapped his massive, armored hands around the hilt. He planted his boots, bent his knees, and pulled with a roar that shook the loose gravel at his feet. His muscles strained, the leather of his gloves groaning under the immense pressure. Yet, the blade remained completely motionless. Sweat poured down his face as he tried again, but the rock held the steel fast. Breathing heavily, Borin finally released his grip and stumbled back, his pride deeply wounded.

"If I couldn't pull it out, no one can," he grumbled, looking back at his squad.

From the back of the shivering crowd, a lean, mud-stained young man stepped forward. His name was Arthur. Clad in a frayed woolen vest that barely protected him from the biting cold, he looked entirely out of place among the towering soldiers. Yet, as he gazed up at the legendary hilt, there was no fear in his eyes.

"I am Arthur," he said with quiet resolve, stepping past the guards. "And I am going to claim you."

He reached out, his dirt-covered hand closing tightly around the ancient leather hilt.
