Previously: When the realm's strongest soldier failed to draw the mythical blade from the stone, a forgotten peasant boy stepped forward, shocking the entire empire with a secret no one saw coming.

The Spark of Rebellion

As Arthur's fingers wrapped around the worn leather, a low hum vibrated through the ravine. The gloomy gray sky seemed to crack open, and a brilliant, warm light erupted from the seam of the split rock. With a gentle pull, the legendary blade slid from the stone as smoothly as if it were drawn from water. The blinding light forced the soldiers to shield their eyes, their murmurs of mockery instantly dying in their throats.

Borin fell to his knees, staring at the glowing steel in the hands of a mere peasant boy. But the awe in the air was quickly shattered by the cold, calculating voice of Lord Alistair, the commander of the vanguard.

"Witchcraft!" Alistair bellowed, drawing his own broadsword. "This boy is a thief and a sorcerer! Seize him!"

Before Arthur could react, two heavy guards lunged into the crowd of terrified villagers. They dragged Arthur's mother, Miriam, to the front of the line, forcing her to her knees. A cold steel blade was pressed firmly against her throat.

"Drop the weapon, boy, or your mother dies where she stands," Alistair sneered, a cruel glint in his eyes.

Arthur froze, his heart hammering against his ribs. The glowing sword felt light in his hands, but the weight of his mother's life was unbearable. He looked at Miriam, whose eyes were filled with tears but also a fierce pride.

"Don't do it, Arthur!" she cried out. "Your father died to protect that blade!"

Alistair laughed, a dry, mocking sound that chilled Arthur to his very bones. He stepped closer, whispering so only Arthur could hear.

"She speaks the truth," Alistair hissed. "Your father was the true guardian. He refused to yield, so I drove my dagger into his back fifteen years ago. Now, hand over the sword, or history will repeat itself."

The revelation struck Arthur like a physical blow. The man standing before him was the monster who had destroyed his family. Now, Arthur stood surrounded, forced to make an impossible choice between his father's legacy and his mother's survival.
