The midday sun beat down on the bustling downtown sidewalk, but the warmth did nothing to soften the cold tension rising between two men. Bernard, a weathered veteran wearing a faded green cap and his old military jacket, stood his ground. In front of him stood Gregory, a regional director whose expensive dark brown suit and pristine leather clipboard screamed privilege and arrogance. For months, Bernard had been fighting a losing battle against the bureaucracy that had suddenly halted his pension. Today, he wanted answers.

A Cruel Confrontation

Instead of answers, Bernard received a harsh, physical dismissal. With a sneer of pure contempt, Gregory stepped forward and shoved the older man hard against the rough brick wall of the office building. The impact rattled Bernard’s fragile frame, and the force of the blow knocked a gleaming gold challenge coin from his calloused hand. It clattered against the concrete, rolling away until it stopped right beside a polished black dress shoe.

"Your pension has disappeared, old man," Gregory whispered, leaning in with a cold, triumphant grin. "Someone like you no longer needs documents."

Bernard didn't flinch. Despite the pain in his shoulder, his eyes remained steady and defiant. He looked past Gregory's tailored shoulder, out toward the busy city street. A low rumble began to echo off the high-rise buildings, drawing the attention of passersby. Bernard’s lips parted into a faint, knowing smile.

"Son, you'd better look toward the road," Bernard said quietly.

Gregory scoffed, but the sound of heavy tires screeching to a halt made him turn. A convoy of three massive, pitch-black SUVs had pulled up directly to the curb, blocking the lane. The doors flew open, and out stepped General Montgomery, a highly decorated officer in a pristine dress uniform. His chest was covered in medals, and his eyes were locked onto the gold coin on the ground. He stepped forward, his voice cutting through the city noise like thunder.

"Pick it up," the General commanded.
