The Briefing Room Standfall

The tactical briefing room of Sector 4 was always freezing, but today, the chill in the air had nothing to do with the air conditioning. Glowing gridded wall maps cast a pale blue light over the metal table, where a dozen high-ranking officers sat in tense silence. At the head of the table stood Officer Sarah Jenkins. At just twenty-nine, she had designed the entire defense strategy for the upcoming joint-forces operation. Her blonde hair was pulled back into a flawless, regulation bun, and her uniform was immaculate. She was ready to present.

But General Arthur Vance had other plans. Arthur was a relic of a bygone era, a man who measured capability by gender rather than merit. He had spent the last three months trying to undermine Sarah's authority, but today, he decided to cross a line in front of the entire brass. Before Sarah could even open her digital brief, Arthur stepped directly into her personal space. His face was flushed, his eyes narrow with undisguised contempt.

"A woman's place is in the kitchen," Arthur barked, pointing a thick, trembling finger directly at her face.

The room gasped, but no one dared to speak. Arthur's reputation for destroying careers kept everyone glued to their seats. Emboldened by the silence, Arthur took it a step further. He slammed his heavy palm onto the metal desk, making the glass water pitchers rattle violently.

"Bring me a coffee! Right now!" he bellowed, his voice echoing off the concrete walls.

The silence that followed was suffocating. Every eye in the room turned to Sarah, expecting her to break, to cry, or to comply. Instead, she looked directly into the eyes of the man who thought he could break her. Her face remained a mask of absolute calm. She didn't blink. She didn't flinch.

"No," Sarah said, her voice quiet but ringing with absolute authority.

Without waiting for his reaction, she turned on her heel and walked out of the room, leaving the General standing there, red-faced and utterly stunned.
