Previously: When General Arthur tried to humiliate Officer Sarah by ordering her to get him coffee, he had no idea she held the power to end his career.

The Tables Turn

The aftermath of the briefing room confrontation was swift. Within fifteen minutes, Sarah was summoned to the office of Base Commander Colonel Briggs. As she walked in, she wasn't surprised to find General Arthur already there. He was pacing the floor like a caged predator, a folder of immediate discharge papers gripped tightly in his hand. He looked up as she entered, a smug, vindictive sneer playing on his lips.

"You're finished, Jenkins," Arthur hissed, tossing the papers onto Briggs's desk. "Insubordination, failure to obey a direct order, and conduct unbecoming. I'll make sure you're dishonorably discharged by sunset."

Colonel Briggs, however, did not look at the discharge papers. He sat behind his desk, looking pale and holding a thick, cream-colored envelope sealed with the official gold wax of the Department of Defense. It had arrived via special courier just minutes after the incident in the briefing room.

Briggs cleared his throat, ignoring Arthur's outburst. "General Arthur, before we discuss any disciplinary action, we have a priority directive from the Pentagon. It concerns the immediate restructuring of the regional command for this entire operation."

Arthur scoffed, waving his hand dismissively. "Whatever it is, it can wait. I want this insubordinate girl out of my sight and off this base."

Briggs broke the seal on the envelope, his hands trembling slightly as he pulled out the document. As his eyes scanned the official letter, his expression changed from professional neutrality to sheer disbelief. He looked up at Sarah, then back at the paper, and finally at Arthur.

"I'm afraid it cannot wait, General," Briggs said, his voice dropping to a whisper. "According to this federal directive, effective immediately, the Department of Defense has appointed a Supreme Regional Director to oversee all personnel, tactics, and promotions for this sector. All current officers are to report directly to them."

Arthur frowned, a sudden uneasy feeling settling in his chest. "And who is this director?" he demanded, snatching the paper from Briggs's hands.
