My Husband Laughed When I Fell at Our Wedding, So I Called My Lawyer
The Fall and the Laughter
The grand banquet hall of the Plaza Hotel was a vision of opulent luxury. Crystal chandeliers cast a warm, golden glow over hundreds of elite guests dressed in black-tie attire. It was supposed to be the happiest day of my life. I was marrying Joshua, the handsome heir to a real estate empire. But as I stood at the head table in my heavy, restrictive designer gown, a sudden wave of dizziness hit me. The silk fabric of my train caught on the heavy mahogany chair, and before I could grab the table, I lost my footing. With a loud crash, I fell awkwardly to the hard marble floor.
A suffocating silence fell over the room. I looked up, expecting my new husband to rush to my side, his eyes filled with concern. Instead, Joshua stood there, holding his champagne flute, a smirk spreading across his face. He let out a loud chuckle.
"Wow, too slow,"he said, loud enough for the microphone to catch his voice. A ripple of cruel laughter echoed through the hall as the guests followed his lead, amused by my humiliation.

Tears stung my eyes as I struggled to sit up. Then, my mother-in-law, Margaret, stepped forward. Draped in a heavily beaded silver gown, she looked down at me with pure disgust.
"What a shame,"she sneered, sipping her wine.
"She doesn't even know how to sit properly. I knew we shouldn't have let someone from her background into our family."
Hearing those words, something inside me broke, but it wasn't my spirit. It was the illusion of my love for Joshua. I wiped the tears from my cheeks and slowly stood up, refusing any help. I looked at the massive, five-carat diamond ring on my left hand. Without a word, I slid it off my finger and dropped it straight into Joshua's glass of champagne. The clink of the metal against glass silenced the room instantly. Before Joshua could speak, the grand double doors of the hall swung open. A man in a sharp three-piece suit walked in with a leather briefcase. I looked at Joshua's pale face and whispered,
"My lawyer is already here."
