The Touch of a Miracle

The autumn sun cast a warm, golden glow over the cobblestone streets, but for Grace, the beauty of the afternoon was always masked by a quiet melancholy. Bound to her wheelchair for a decade following a devastating accident, she spent her days watching the world pass by, her loyal Dalmatian resting silently at her side. Her maid, Penelope, stood nearby, vigilant and protective as always. Grace’s teal satin gown draped elegantly over her motionless legs, a beautiful fabric hiding a painful reality.

Suddenly, the peaceful atmosphere shattered. A young man, disheveled and covered in grime, stumbled out of the alleyway. His tattered beige shirt hung loosely from his shoulders, and his face was smeared with soot. Before Penelope could react, he lunged forward, reaching directly for Grace’s feet. Panic seized her, and she pulled back into her seat, her breath catching in her throat.

"Don't touch me!"

she gasped, her heart hammering against her ribs. Penelope rushed forward, her dark blue uniform rustling as she grabbed the stranger's arm to pull him away. But as Grace looked into the young man's eyes, something stopped her. There was an intense, pleading desperation in his gaze that felt hauntingly familiar. She raised her hand, halting her maid.

"Leave him alone. Let's see what he wants,"

Grace commanded softly. The young man fell to his knees, placing his dirt-stained hands directly onto the wheelchair's cold metal footrest. What happened next defied all laws of science. A brilliant, magical golden light began to emanate from his palms, wrapping around Grace’s ankles like warm liquid sunlight. Penelope gasped, stepping back in utter disbelief. Grace stared down, tears welling in her eyes as a sensation she hadn't felt in ten years—pure, vibrant warmth—coursed through her veins. She looked up at him, her voice trembling.

"How?"

she whispered. The young man looked deep into her eyes, a bittersweet smile touching his lips.

"Soon you will remember me,"

he murmured, before releasing his grip.
