A Sudden Interruption at the Altar

The bright, high-contrast sunlight poured through the stained-glass windows of the orchid-filled chapel, illuminating Emily in her breathtaking silk gown. Everything was perfect, or so she thought. She was standing hand-in-hand with James, the man she believed to be her soulmate. But just as the minister began the vows, a frantic commotion erupted at the back of the church. Emily’s eight-year-old sister, Sophia, came running down the aisle, her small hands clutching a retro-style digital camera.

James’s face instantly contorted with rage. His slicked-back hair caught the sharp chapel light as he stepped forward, pointing an angry finger.

"Get her out of here! Security, remove her!"
he screamed, his voice echoing off the high stone walls. The guests gasped, whispering in confusion. Why was the groom so furious at a little girl?

Tears welled in Emily’s eyes as Sophia bypassed the ushers and hid behind the heavy silk folds of her gown. Sophia looked up, her innocent eyes filled with terror but determination. James tried to laugh it off, turning to Emily with a defensive sneer.

"So what? She's just playing a game. She's lying, Emily. Don't listen to her,"
he snapped, his voice trembling with a sudden, desperate panic.

But Sophia held the small retro camera up to Emily.

"The camera heard you, James,"
the little girl whispered, her voice carrying through the quiet sanctuary.
"He said he used you, Emily. Listen."
Sophia pressed a button. A crackling, recorded voice began to play through the camera's tiny speaker. It was unmistakably James. "After the wedding, I'll take..." The recording cut off as James stared in sheer, unadulterated panic, his hands shaking as the entire congregation fell into a dead silence.
