Previously: When Admiral Robert Vance spotted a mysterious woman on his high-security naval base, he never expected to face the daughter he thought he had lost forever to a deep-cover agency.

The Threat Imminent

The silent respect of the salute was shattered by the sudden, harsh static of Rachel’s earpiece. Before Robert could lower his hand or speak the words of apology burning in his throat, Rachel's posture shifted. Her eyes darted toward the main security gate. Two unmarked black SUVs breached the perimeter, tires screeching against the asphalt as they tore across the courtyard, ignoring the shouting guards.

“Dad, we need to move,” Rachel said, dropping the formal military address. Her voice was urgent, laced with a cold professionalism that sent a shiver down the Admiral's spine.

“What is going on, Rachel? Who are they?” Robert demanded, his hand instinctively dropping to the holster at his hip. The high-ranking officers in the background had scattered, drawing their weapons and shouting orders as security alarms began to wail across the base.

The SUVs screeched to a halt, forming a barricade. Heavily armed men in unmarked tactical gear stepped out, their rifles trained directly on Rachel and the Admiral. From the passenger side of the lead vehicle, a man in a tailored gray suit stepped out, holding a small black device with a glowing red indicator.

“Admiral Vance!” the man called out, his voice amplified by a megaphone. “Your daughter has something that belongs to us. Hand over the drive, or I detonate the primary fuel depot on the south side of this base. You have thirty seconds.”

Robert looked at his daughter, horror dawning on him. The south side depot held millions of gallons of fuel; a detonation would wipe out half the base and kill hundreds of sailors. “Rachel, what is he talking about?” he whispered.

“I slipped into a rogue syndicate facility in Berlin,” she whispered back, her hand slowly sliding toward her pocket. “I took the decryption keys to their entire global network. If they get this back, they can launch coordinated attacks worldwide. If I give it to them, millions die. If I don't, this base goes up in flames.”
