Following the Admiral into his private office, the heavy oak door shut out the noise of the busy base. The atmosphere inside was suffocatingly tense. Edward turned to face his daughter, his stern expression returning, though his eyes were filled with deep anxiety.“What are you doing here, Megan?” he demanded, his voice shaking slightly. “This base is currently under a highly sensitive investigation. It is not safe for civilians, let alone you.”

Megan stood tall, refusing to be intimidated by his rank. “I am not here as a civilian, Dad. I am the lead intelligence operative assigned by the Pentagon to investigate the illegal smuggling of classified naval technology.”

Edward’s face turned pale. He sank into his leather chair, the realization hitting him like a physical blow. “You are the shadow agent? Then you must know how deep this goes. It is not just minor officers. It goes all the way to my inner circle.”

“I know,” Megan said quietly, stepping closer to his desk. “The evidence points directly to your Chief of Staff, Commander Sterling. He has been selling access codes to foreign syndicates.”

Before Edward could respond, the heavy brass door handle began to turn. Reacting with military instincts, Edward grabbed Megan’s arm and shoved her behind a large steel filing cabinet in the shadowed corner of the room. “Stay hidden,” he whispered urgently.

Commander Sterling walked into the office, holding a thick folder. His smile was cold and calculated. “Admiral, we have a security breach. A civilian contractor was caught downloading classified files. I have ordered a full armed lockdown. Anyone aiding her will be charged with treason.”

Sterling pulled out a signal jammer, cutting off Megan’s communications. He then drew a suppressed pistol, pointing it directly at the Admiral’s chest. “I know she is in this room, Admiral. Tell me where she is, or this ends badly for both of you.”
