Previously: Head chef Edward is furious when he finds a young stranger tampering with his signature dish, but the intruder's mysterious talent and a shocking revelation will change his restaurant forever.

A Ghost from the Past

For a long moment, the only sound in the kitchen was the low hum of the ventilation fans. Edward stared at the plate, then at the young man who stood before him with such unshakeable confidence. Summoning his authority, Edward grabbed a clean spoon from the counter.

"You think you can just walk into my kitchen and alter my menu?" Edward muttered, his voice trembling. "Let's see what you've actually done."

He dipped the spoon into the dark amber reduction and tasted it. Instantly, a complex wave of flavors exploded across his palate—smoky, sweet, with a delicate hint of wild citrus that perfectly elevated the rich scallops. It was a masterpiece of balance. But more than that, the flavor profile was agonizingly familiar. It was a secret blend of spices Edward hadn't tasted in fifteen years. It was the signature style of his late mentor, Arthur Pendelton, the legendary chef with whom Edward had suffered a bitter, unresolved falling out before Arthur's passing.

Edward’s hands began to shake as he looked at the young man. "Where did you learn to make this?" he whispered.

The stranger reached into his pocket and pulled out a worn, leather-bound notebook. Edward recognized it instantly—it was Arthur’s personal culinary journal.

"My name is Dylan," the young man said softly. "Arthur Pendelton was my grandfather. He told me everything about you, Edward. He told me about the prodigy who walked away."

Before Edward could process the shock, the head hostess rushed into the kitchen, her face pale. "Chef! The lead critic from the Michelin Guide has just sat down at table four. They are expecting your absolute best."

Dylan looked at the journal in his hands, then at Edward. "My grandfather left one final, unfinished masterpiece in this book. He always wanted you to see it. We can cook it together tonight, or you can serve your old menu and risk losing everything."
