An Arrogant Officer Handcuffed an Elderly Driver, Unaware of the Man's Secret Identity
Previously: When Officer Davis pulled over a faded green sedan, he thought he was dealing with an easy target. But the elderly driver in handcuffs held a secret that would bring the entire police department to its knees.
The Ghost in the Photo
Officer Davis stared at the photograph, his breathing suddenly shallow. The picture showed three young men in police uniforms from thirty years ago, smiling in front of the precinct. One was Arthur, another was Thomas Vance—the current Chief of Police—and the third man had his face aggressively scratched out with a black marker. Davis's hands began to tremble. The man with the defaced face was his own father, a corrupt officer who had been sent to federal prison decades ago after his own partner blew the whistle. Arthur was that partner.
Davis's breath hitched as he stared at the tarnished badge. He took a step back, looking at Arthur as if he were looking at a ghost."You... you're Arthur Pendelton,"
Davis whispered, the anger in his voice replaced by a sudden, volatile panic. He looked around the desolate highway. There were no witnesses, no passing cars, just the whistling wind. The desire for revenge, nurtured over a lifetime of shame, burned hot in his chest.

"Your father made his choices, Davis. And it looks like you are making the same mistakes,"
Arthur said quietly, his eyes scanning the officer's tense posture. Davis reached for his service weapon, his knuckles turning white as he unclipped the holster. He was alone with the man who had ruined his family's reputation, and the temptation to silence him forever was overwhelming.
Before Davis could draw his gun, the police radio on his shoulder burst to life with loud static. The dispatcher's voice cracked through the quiet air, urgent and sharp.
"Unit 4, dispatch. We have a direct order from Chief Vance. He is tracking the GPS of a vintage sedan on Route 9. Officer Davis, if you have initiated contact with Arthur Pendelton, you are ordered to stand down immediately. Do you copy?"
Davis froze, his hand still gripping his weapon. He stared at Arthur, realizing that the Chief of Police was already tracking them. The stakes had just escalated to a life-or-death decision.
