The Intruder at the VIP Station

The kitchen of L’Etoile was a battlefield of stainless steel, white smoke, and high-stakes tension. For over twenty years, Chef Charles had ruled this space with an uncompromising, iron fist. His name was synonymous with culinary perfection, but lately, the crown had grown incredibly heavy. The restaurant was on the verge of losing its coveted Michelin star, and tonight was the night that would decide its fate. The city’s most ruthless food critic, Arthur Vance, was currently seated at table four, waiting for the signature appetizer.

Charles wiped the sweat from his brow, his silver-streaked hair damp under the kitchen lights. He stepped away from the pass for a brief moment to inspect a shipment of fresh truffles at the back door. When he returned, however, his heart skipped a beat. Standing directly in front of his private prep station was a stranger.

The young man couldn't have been more than twenty years old. He wore a crisp, spotless white chef's jacket, but Charles had never seen his face before in his life. Worse, the young man was holding a squeeze bottle, drizzling a dark, thick balsamic reduction over Charles's carefully plated scallops.

"Hey! What are you doing?" Charles bellowed, his voice booming across the silent kitchen.

The entire line went dead still. Every cook froze, staring in terror. Charles marched forward, his face flushed with anger, ready to throw the intruder out onto the street. But as he drew closer, the sheer confidence of the young man stopped him in his tracks. The boy didn't flinch or apologize. He calmly finished the delicate drizzle, set the bottle down, and looked up with a serene expression.

Charles's rage instantly turned to absolute bewilderment. He stared at the young man's face, finding something hauntingly familiar in his eyes.

"Wait... Who are you?" Charles gasped, his voice barely a whisper.

The young man met his gaze without a hint of fear.

"I'm improving your dish," Lucas replied calmly.
