Previously: When Captain Vance tried to forcefully eject a civilian woman from the military base mess hall, he thought he was enforcing the rules. He had no idea who she really was.

The Final Audit

Before Vance could recover his voice, the heavy double doors of the mess hall flew open. Every soldier in the room snapped to attention as Colonel Harrison, the base commander, strode in. He looked at the spilled food, the tense MPs, and the pale, sweating Captain Vance.

"What is the meaning of this disruption?"

the Colonel demanded. Vance stammered, trying to weave a lie about a civilian spy making treasonous accusations. But Sarah simply walked over, picked up her fallen ID badge, and handed it directly to Colonel Harrison. The Colonel flipped it open, and his eyes widened. He immediately snapped a crisp salute to Sarah.

"Dr. Jenkins,"

Colonel Harrison said, his voice filled with deep respect.

"I apologize for this unacceptable treatment. I was informed the Department of Defense's Special Inspector General had arrived, but I did not expect to find you here."

The mess hall fell into a stunned silence. Vance looked as if he might faint. Sarah turned to face him, her expression completely devoid of pity.

"Captain Vance, your logistics records have been fully audited,"

she said.

"Military police, please arrest Captain Vance for grand larceny, embezzlement of federal funds, and physical assault of a federal officer."

Sergeant Miller did not hesitate this time. The handcuffs clicked tightly around Vance's wrists as he was led away in front of the entire base, his career and his freedom gone in an instant. Colonel Harrison personally escorted Sarah to a clean table, ordering a fresh meal to be prepared for her. As she finally sat down to eat, Sarah knew that justice had been served. True power does not lie in a uniform or a loud voice, but in the quiet truth that eventually brings every bully to their knees.
