An Arrogant Officer Publicly Humiliated Me, Unaware of My True Identity
Previously: When a hostile military officer tried to drag me out of a base cafeteria, he thought I was just a defenseless civilian. He had no idea I was his new commanding officer.
The Tables Turn
Just as Vance reached out to forcibly remove Sarah from the line, a sharp, commanding voice sliced through the tense atmosphere of the cafeteria. "Officer Vance! Stand down immediately!"
Vance snapped to attention, his posture rigid as he saluted the approaching figure. It was Colonel Higgins, the base commander, whose face was pale with a mixture of shock and sheer panic. Vance, believing he was in the right, quickly tried to justify his actions.

"Colonel, I was simply enforcing protocol. This civilian was refusing to leave the active-duty line," Vance stammered, expecting praise for his diligence.
Colonel Higgins completely ignored Vance. Instead, he stepped toward Sarah and bowed his head in a gesture of profound respect that left the entire cafeteria breathless.
"Ma'am, we did not expect you until this afternoon," Higgins said, his voice laced with anxiety. "I apologize deeply for this unacceptable reception."
Vance’s jaw dropped. The blood drained from his face as he stared at the woman in the gray hoodie. He looked at his commanding officer in utter confusion.
"Colonel... who is this?" Vance managed to ask, his voice cracking slightly.
"This is Sarah Callahan," the Colonel growled, turning a furious gaze upon Vance. "She is the newly appointed Deputy Director of Defense Oversight, sent directly from Washington to audit our entire operation. And you just threatened her."
The cafeteria remained in stunned silence as Sarah calmly set her tray down. She looked at the trembling officer with a piercing gaze. She knew something Vance didn't: her audit had already uncovered a massive trail of financial discrepancies and missing military equipment under Vance's direct supervision. This confrontation was no longer just about cafeteria etiquette; it was the beginning of his undoing.
Minutes later, in the sterile environment of the base’s secure briefing room, Sarah sat across from Vance. She placed a thick, leather-bound folder on the table, opening it to reveal a mountain of incriminating evidence.
"Let’s talk about the missing logistics shipments, Officer Vance," Sarah said quietly.
Vance realized he was cornered. Desperate, he reached into his jacket pocket and pulled out an encrypted flash drive, slamming it onto the table.
"If you open that file, Sarah, both of our careers end," Vance threatened, his voice shaking with desperate malice. "I have enough leverage on this base to bring everyone down with me. Do you really want to start a war you can't win?"
