Previously: When an arrogant young soldier mocks a weathered 68-year-old veteran at a desert shooting competition, he has no idea he is challenging a legendary sniper from the military's most elite ghost unit.

The Sins of the Father

The revelation hung heavily in the dry desert air. Jax stared at William, his cockiness entirely evaporated. The legendary Ghost Unit was a myth whispered in military barracks—a covert group of elite snipers who operated in the shadows, executing impossible missions. To realize that the old man he had just insulted was one of them was a bitter, terrifying pill for Jax to swallow.

General Vance walked over to William, ignoring the trembling young soldier. His expression was grim, devoid of any celebratory warmth. He handed William a rugged, encrypted tactical tablet. On the screen, a live video feed showed a young man tied to a chair in a dimly lit, concrete room. It was Leo, William's thirty-year-old son, who had followed in his father's footsteps into private security.

"They took him three hours ago near the border,"

Vance explained, his voice low and tight. "The captors left a message. They don't want money. They want the Ghost. It's Victor—the syndicate leader who escaped your final mission twenty years ago. He wants revenge."

William’s weathered hands tightened around his rifle. The wolf tattoo on his arm seemed to darken with his rising anger. His son was the only family he had left. He looked at Jax, who was still standing paralyzed by the desk, staring at the screen in horror.

"You,"

William said, pointing a calloused finger at Jax. "You talk big. Let's see if you can drive. Grab your gear. We are going into the Red Zone."

Jax stammered, his bravado completely gone, but the stern glare from General Vance silenced any protest. Within minutes, the unlikely duo was roaring across the barren desert in a heavily armored utility vehicle, chasing the coordinates of a ghost from William’s past. But as they entered the rocky canyons, the vehicle’s electronics suddenly flickered and died. An EMP trap had been sprung, leaving them stranded and surrounded in the silent canyon.
