Previously: When a young, cocky soldier mocked a 66-year-old veteran at a desert firing range, he had no idea who he was dealing with—until a single shot revealed a legendary secret.

The Confrontation

Before Leo could recover his composure, a heavy silence fell over the range. The tension was broken by the sound of approaching footsteps. Out of the command tent walked General Vance, a decorated commander whose face grew pale as he locked eyes with Arthur. The General stood at absolute attention, his hand rising in a crisp, respectful salute.

"Arthur... we thought we lost you in Kandahar thirty years ago,"
the General said, his voice trembling with deep emotion.

Leo looked between his commander and the old veteran, his face twisting in confusion and sudden panic. "General, you know this man?" Leo stammered, trying to regain his footing. General Vance turned a glare on Leo that could cut through steel.

"This man is Colonel Arthur Vance—no relation, but a legend. He is the founder of the Ghost Unit, the most decorated sniper in our nation's history. And you just insulted him."

But Arthur hadn't come to the desert just to show off his marksmanship. He had come for justice.

"I'm not here for a salute, Vance,"
Arthur said, his voice cold.
"I'm here because of the pension records of my fallen men. Someone has been systematically deleting them from the military database, leaving their widows and children with nothing. And my sources pointed directly to this base."

General Vance’s eyes narrowed as he looked at Leo, whose face had completely drained of color. The young lieutenant began to step backward, his hand nervously hovering near his sidearm. The truth was unraveling. Leo had been embezzling the classified Ghost Unit funds to cover up a massive deficit in his own division's high-tech budget, believing no one would ever notice the missing records of a "mythical" unit. Now, the myth was standing right in front of him, armed and dangerous.
