Previously: After being wrongfully discharged, elite sniper Emily is called back for an impossible mission. But when she discovers who she must save, her world is shattered.

A Bitter Confession

Before the rescue team could even reach the gates, the compound erupted in gunfire. A hidden enemy machine-gun nest opened fire on Emily and David's ridge, sending a hail of bullets tearing through their camouflage net. A stray round grazed David's shoulder, throwing him to the ground with a cry of pain. Emily immediately grabbed his tactical vest, dragging him behind a thick concrete barrier as dust and debris rained down on them.

David was pale, clutching his bleeding shoulder. As Emily applied a pressure dressing, he looked up at her with tears in his eyes, his voice trembling with a mixture of pain and deep regret.

"Emily, I need to tell you the truth," he gasped, holding onto her hand. "Five years ago... I knew Vance lied about you. I knew you were innocent. But he had my sister's medical records. He was blackmailing me. If I defended you, he would have cut off her life-saving treatment. I had to choose."

Emily stared at him, her heart freezing. The betrayal that had fueled her anger for five years wasn't born out of malice, but out of a desperate brother's love. Before she could speak, a screeching alarm echoed across the valley. Through the dust storm, she saw a figure emerge on the roof of the compound.

It was the militia leader, dragging a bloodied Major Vance. In his hand, the captor held a heavy detonator wired directly to a bomb strapped to Vance's chest. He was preparing to blow up the entire facility, killing the hostages and the entire rescue team. The sandstorm was rapidly growing thicker, turning the horizon into a wall of blinding yellow dust.
