The tension in the terminal remained palpable as two transit police officers arrived, having witnessed the physical altercation. They immediately intercepted Thomas, placing him in handcuffs for assaulting an active-duty military officer on transit property. Thomas did not resist. He stood limp, staring at the floor, his face pale. But as they began to lead him away, Marcus noticed a profound change in the older man. The aggressive bully had vanished, replaced by a hollow, broken soul. Tears were streaming down Thomas's weathered cheeks.

"Please," Thomas whispered hoarsely as he passed Marcus. "Just tell me... did you know my son, Danny? Danny Miller?"

The name struck Marcus like lightning. Seaman Recruit Danny Miller had been a young sailor under Marcus’s direct command during his last deployment. Six months ago, Danny had tragically lost his life during a nighttime training exercise in treacherous waters. The official report had ruled it a tragic accident due to equipment failure. Marcus had personally written the letter of condolence to the family, but he had never met Danny's father in person.

Realizing the deep pain behind the guard's erratic behavior, Marcus intervened. He asked the transit police to hold Thomas in the station's security office rather than transporting him immediately to jail. Marcus wanted answers.

Inside the quiet, sterile office, Marcus sat across from the weeping father. "I knew Danny, Thomas," Marcus said softly. "He was a fine sailor. But why did you attack me?"

Thomas looked up, his eyes red and filled with a desperate accusation. "Because you signed the report that lied about how he died!" Thomas spat out, his voice shaking. "Danny wrote to me a week before he died. He said the equipment was faulty, and that he had reported it to his superiors, but they ignored him to keep the mission on schedule. He said they threatened him to keep quiet. And then he died. I thought you were one of the men who silenced him to protect your careers."
