Previously: When my corrupt boss set fire to the only proof of his multi-million dollar fraud, he thought he was safe. He had no idea we were one step ahead.

A New Dawn

Before Henry’s hands could reach me, the heavy boardroom doors flew open with a resounding crash. Two police officers rushed into the room, followed closely by an elegant woman in a tailored gray suit. It was Eleanor Sterling, the majority shareholder and the widow of the firm’s original founder. She had been watching the live stream from her office downstairs.

"Step away from her, Henry," Eleanor commanded, her voice cutting through the chaos like ice. "It’s over."

The officers quickly restrained Henry, pulling his arms behind his back and clicking the handcuffs into place. He looked defeated, his gray hair disheveled, all his power stripped away in an instant. As they led him out of the boardroom, he wouldn't even look us in the eye. The man who had ruled the company with an iron fist was reduced to a common criminal, facing years of federal prison.

Eleanor walked over to our side of the table. She looked at the charred ashes on the rosewood, then at the three of us. A soft, appreciative smile crossed her face. She thanked us for our bravery, acknowledging that we had saved the company from complete ruin. Not only did she promise to restore the employees' stolen retirement funds, but she also offered me Henry's former position as senior partner.

Looking back at that dramatic night, I realized that truth has a way of rising from the ashes. Henry tried to use fire to cover his lies, but the flame only served to illuminate the dark corners of his deception. In the end, integrity is a shield that no amount of greed can ever burn away.
