Before Nicole could respond to his threat, the sharp ring of her desk phone shattered the silence. It was a summons from the executive suite. The CEO, Richard Vance, wanted both of them in the main boardroom immediately. The Carter account was on the line, and Mr. Carter himself was waiting on the video conference.

As they walked down the carpeted hallway, Christopher adjusted his collar, trying to regain his composure. "You're going to take the fall for this, Nicole," he muttered under his breath. "I am the director here. If you try to blame me, Vance will fire you before you can even pack your desk."

Nicole didn't say a word. She clutched her leather briefcase tightly to her side. Inside lay a USB drive containing the ultimate insurance policy: original timestamped drafts, system access logs showing Christopher had locked her out of the files, and emails proving he had plagiarized her entire campaign.

When they entered the boardroom, the atmosphere was icy. Richard Vance sat at the head of the mahogany table, his face grim. On the massive wall screen, Mr. Carter looked absolutely furious.

"I don't care about your internal politics," Mr. Carter's voice boomed through the speakers. "Your pitch promised a fully integrated digital roll-out. Christopher told us last week that the system was live, but our data is completely scrambled. We are losing thousands of dollars by the hour. I want answers, and I want them now."

Christopher immediately stepped forward, his face morphing into a mask of deep regret. "Mr. Carter, Mr. Vance, I must apologize. I trusted my lead developer, Nicole, to handle the implementation. Unfortunately, she failed to execute the protocols correctly, and she has been uncooperative when asked to fix her mistakes."

Nicole felt the eyes of the CEO lock onto her. The trap was sprung, and Christopher was ready to sacrifice her career to save his own skin.
