Previously: When a hot-headed sergeant tried to violently humiliate a civilian-dressed woman in a military cafeteria, he had no idea she held his entire future in her hands.

Sergeant Kevin let out a mock laugh, looking around at his buddies for approval. "A career-ending mistake? Who do you think you are, lady?" he sneered. But the laughter died in his throat as Melissa calmly reached into her pocket and pulled out her official military identification credentials. The gold star and the red border of a high-ranking commanding officer gleamed under the cafeteria lights.

The Tables Turn

Kevin’s face drained of color, turning an ash-gray. Austin, still holding his tray, let it slip from his fingers; it clattered loudly against the floor, spilling food everywhere. "S-Sergeant," Kevin stammered, his voice cracking as he tried to salute with trembling hands. "I didn't realize... I thought you were an intruder."

"I am Colonel Melissa Vance, your new commanding officer,"
Melissa said, her voice echoing off the concrete walls.
"And you just assaulted a superior officer in front of a hundred witnesses. Report to my office immediately."

An hour later, Melissa sat in her new office, reviewing Kevin’s personnel file. What she discovered, however, went far beyond a simple disciplinary issue. Hidden deep within his transfer records were strange discrepancies in the base’s logistics and supply chain. Millions of dollars of high-grade tactical equipment had gone missing under Kevin’s watch at his previous station, only to be written off as administrative errors.

Before Melissa could draft the court-martial paperwork, her office door slammed open. General Sterling, the base's highest-ranking senior officer, marched in. He didn't look pleased. He threw a red folder onto her desk and glared at her.

"Colonel Vance, you will rescind the charges against Sergeant Kevin immediately,"
the General ordered, his voice dripping with menace.
"He is protected. If you pursue this, your command here will be over before it even begins."
Melissa realized then that the rot went all the way to the top.
