Previously: When Sergeant Robert Miller publicly humiliated a civilian woman in a military chow hall, he thought he was teaching an intruder a lesson. He had no idea she held his entire career in her hands.
Sergeant Robert Miller threw his head back and laughed, a mocking sound that echoed off the concrete walls of the chow hall.
"A career-ending mistake? Who do you think you are, lady? I run this base’s logistics!"he sneered, gesturing mockingly to the surrounding soldiers who watched in stunned silence. He waved over two Military Police officers stationed near the entrance.
"Arrest this civilian for trespassing and harassing active-duty soldiers!"Robert ordered, his chest puffed out with unearned authority.
The MPs hesitated, looking between the decorated sergeant and the remarkably calm civilian woman. Brandon tried to speak, but Robert glared him down, silencing the young private instantly. As the MPs stepped forward, Nicole calmly reached into her pocket. Robert braced himself, thinking she might pull a weapon, but instead, she flipped open a black leather wallet.
The Tables Turn
Inside was a gold Department of Defense federal investigator badge.
"Call General Thomas,"Nicole told the stunned MPs, her voice dripping with absolute authority.
"Tell him Senior Investigator Nicole Vance is waiting for him in the chow hall."
The atmosphere in the room shifted instantly. The smug smile on Robert's face faltered, replaced by a sudden flicker of doubt. Within minutes, the heavy double doors of the dining facility swung open, and General Thomas, the base commander, marched in with his security detail. Robert immediately stood at attention, saluting sharply.
"General, thank God you're here. We caught this imposter trying to steal military property,"Robert lied smoothly.
General Thomas ignored Robert entirely. He walked straight to Nicole, stopped, and gave her a crisp, formal salute.
"Investigator Vance. I apologize for this unacceptable reception. My office is entirely at your disposal,"the General said, his voice echoing in the silent room.
Robert’s face drained of all color. The stocky bully began to tremble as Nicole stepped closer to him, pulling out an encrypted tablet.
"Not only did you commit assault on a federal officer, Sergeant Miller,"Nicole said coldly,
"but I have spent the last three weeks tracking your illegal black-market warehouse operations. Your entire criminal empire is laid bare right here."
