Previously: When 23-year-old Luke mocked 68-year-old Margaret at the local shooting range, he thought it was an easy win. But one look at her registration form changed everything.

A Confrontation of Legacies

Albert’s voice carried across the sudden quiet of the range. He stared at the name on the form: Margaret Vance. For thirty years, that name had been a legend whispered in the backrooms of shooting clubs, a ghost of a career cut short by a bitter scandal. Albert looked from the paper to the resolute woman standing in Lane Four, instantly recognizing the sharp, unbreakable gaze of the former champion.

Luke, recovering from his initial shock, felt his face burn with embarrassment. He couldn't let an elderly woman show him up in front of his peers. He marched over to the registration counter, slamming his hand down.

"This is ridiculous!" Luke demanded. "She must be using illegal modifications, or she cheated. There's no way some grandmother just walked in here and shot a perfect group like that. Albert, disqualify her!"

Albert looked up, his expression dead serious. He slowly took off his glasses and set them on the counter.

"She didn't cheat, Luke," Albert said, his voice firm. "And you should watch your tongue. You are speaking to the only woman who ever held a perfect thousand-point state record. A record your own father, Richard Carter, only inherited because she was forced out."

A collective gasp rippled through the onlookers. The truth of the old rivalry was finally out in the open. Luke’s eyes widened with fury. He had spent his entire life being told that his father was the undisputed king of the sport. To hear that a silver-haired grandmother had once eclipsed his family's legacy was a blow he couldn't accept.

"I don't care about ancient history," Luke spat, turning to face Margaret. "If you're really the legend everyone says you are, prove it. Let's do a one-on-one shoot-off, right now. Ten targets, rapid fire. If I win, you admit you're a fraud and leave this range forever. If you win... well, you won't."

Margaret looked at the young man, seeing the same ruthless ambition that had ruined her career thirty years ago. She knew her hands weren't as steady as they used to be, but her spirit was stronger than ever. She nodded slowly.

"I accept," Margaret replied.

She nodded slowly."I accept," Margaret replied.
