Previously: When 73-year-old Maeve entered the elite shooting competition, a young champion mocked her age. But one look at her registration form left the head official trembling in absolute shock.

Archibald’s hands began to tremble as he stared at the elegant script on the registration form. The name written there was one that had been whispered in hushed, reverent tones in the shooting community for four decades: Maeve Vance. In 1984, she had been an Olympic gold medalist, a prodigy who defied every limit, until she suddenly vanished on the eve of the world championships, leaving her career and her legacy behind. Many assumed she had died; others believed she had been forced out by corrupt officials.

A Legend Reborn

"It really is you,"
Archibald whispered, his voice thick with emotion. He looked up at Maeve, his eyes wide with a mixture of awe and deep respect. Lance, refusing to let the spotlight slip away from him, shoved his way to the front of the desk.
"What is this nonsense, Archibald? Who cares about some old ghost? The sport has evolved. She's a dinosaur,"
Lance sneered, trying to mask the sudden insecurity clawing at his chest.

Maeve stood tall, her posture flawless. The memories of why she had walked away began to flood back. Forty years ago, she had been betrayed by her own coach, a man who had sabotaged her equipment and threatened her family to force her into retirement so his own favored student could win. She had stayed silent to protect the people she loved. But now, those people were gone, and she had nothing left to fear. She had returned to reclaim what was stolen from her.

Seeing her silence as weakness, Lance threw down a gauntlet.

"If you're such a legend, prove it. I challenge you to a sudden-death shootout. One target, one shot, maximum distance. If you lose, you pack your bags and admit you're washed up. If you win, I'll withdraw from the tournament entirely."
The crowd gasped. Archibald shook his head, warning Maeve that she didn't need to prove anything to a petulant boy. But Maeve looked at Lance, seeing the same arrogant corruption that had ruined her youth. Slowly, she nodded.
