Previously: When a young, arrogant shooter mocked 66-year-old Miriam at the local range, he thought she was lost. But once she signed the register, a shocking secret from the past shook the entire arena.

The Return of a Legend

Abraham looked up from the registration form, his face pale as he stared at the unassuming woman in the beige cardigan. For forty years, the shooting world had wondered what happened to Miriam Vance, the legendary "Steel Lily" who had dominated the national circuit in the late seventies before vanishing without a trace. She had been a ghost, a myth spoken of in hushed tones by old-timers who remembered her impossible speed and perfect focus.

Logan, feeling the spotlight slip away from him, pushed his way to the front of the counter, his face flushed with irritation. He looked at the signature, then at Abraham's stunned expression.

"What is this nonsense, Abraham?" Logan demanded, scoffing. "So she got a lucky group. That doesn't make her a legend. Anyone can have one good run."

Abraham shook his head, his voice still filled with awe. "Logan, you don't understand. This woman was setting world records before your parents were even married. She was undefeated."

The crowd began to buzz, whispering and pulling out their phones to search for the name. Miriam remained perfectly calm, though her heart was hammering against her ribs. She hadn't wanted this attention. She had only come to win the prize money to save the neighborhood community center from being demolished by developers. But now, her cover was blown.

Sensing his dominance threatened, Logan sneered and stepped directly into Miriam's path. He wanted to humiliate her and prove that the old era was dead.

"I don't care about fairy tales from forty years ago," Logan spat. "I challenge you, right now. A head-to-head, three-round shootout. If you lose, you withdraw from the tournament and leave this range forever. If you win... I'll double your entry fee and match the grand prize out of my own pocket."

It was a massive gamble. The grand prize was fifty thousand dollars—exactly what Miriam needed. If Logan matched it, she could secure the community center's future for years to come. But her arthritis was flaring up, and she hadn't shot under this kind of intense pressure in decades. Taking a deep breath, Miriam nodded slowly.
