Previously: When Officer Carter tried to frame Kevin to protect his own family's secrets, a tense police station standoff escalated into a battle for Kevin's freedom—and his daughter.

The Interrogation Trap

Before Kevin could react, Carter grabbed his arm, twisting it behind his back with practiced brutality. The cold steel of the handcuffs bit into Kevin’s wrists. Carter shoved him down the hallway and into a small, windowless interrogation room, slamming the heavy metal door shut behind them. Carter leaned over the table, a smug, victorious grin spreading across his face.

"You're done, Kevin," Carter whispered. "By the time I'm finished writing this report, you'll be facing charges of assaulting a police officer. Your daughter will be with Sarah by tonight."

Kevin felt a cold dread wash over him, but he forced himself to stay calm. He looked down at his red checkered shirt, specifically at the small pocket on the front. "You might want to check my pocket, Carter," Kevin said, his voice surprisingly steady. Carter frowned, his smirk faltering slightly. He reached out and snatched Kevin’s smartphone from the pocket. The screen was black, but as Carter turned it over, he noticed the camera lens was perfectly aligned with a small, custom-cut hole in the fabric.

Carter’s face went pale. He tapped the screen, and the display lit up, showing a live recording application that had been running the entire time. Not only was it recording, but it was also streaming live to a secure cloud server. Every word Carter had said, every threat, and the entire violent confrontation in the hallway had been uploaded in real-time. Carter’s hands began to shake as he realized his career—and his freedom—were on the line.

"Delete it," Carter growled, taking a step toward Kevin with a menacing look in his eyes. "Delete it right now, or I swear you'll never see the light of day."

But before Carter could make another move, the door to the interrogation room swung open. Standing in the doorway was Police Chief Reynolds, holding a tablet that was displaying the very live stream Kevin’s phone had been broadcasting.
