Previously: Officer Emily thought she could trust her partner, David. But when they ended up in a desolate park, his dark secrets—and a length of heavy rope—were revealed.

David’s panic was palpable. He reached for his radio, only to find the channel completely silent. "How did they find us?" he hissed, turning back to Emily with wild, bloodshot eyes. "I took your phone! I disabled your tracking!"

Emily let out a dry, cold laugh that echoed through the quiet forest. "You forgot about the protocol, David," she said, nodding toward the small, seemingly inactive lapel pin on her collar. "It's a secondary, encrypted stream. Every word you've said, every rope you tied, has been broadcasted directly to the Chief and Internal Affairs. The whole precinct is watching you right now."

The Desperate Final Stand

Realizing his life was effectively over, David’s fear morphed into pure, unadulterated rage. He knew he couldn't run, and he knew he couldn't hide. The flashing lights were getting closer, tires screeching on the gravel path just beyond the tree line. In his twisted mind, there was only one thing left to do: eliminate the witness who had destroyed him.

He drew his service weapon and pointed it directly at Emily’s chest. "If I'm going down, you're coming with me," he growled, his finger tightening on the trigger.

"Drop the weapon! Hands in the air!"

A voice boomed from the clearing. It was Captain Harris, leading a tactical team through the brush. But they were fifty yards away—too far to stop David if he decided to squeeze the trigger. Emily closed her eyes, bracing for the impact of the bullet. She heard the deafening crack of a gunshot echo through the trees, followed by a heavy thud. But when she opened her eyes, she wasn't the one bleeding. David was on the ground, clutching his leg, screaming in agony. Another shot had been fired from the tree line, but it hadn't come from the police.
