For fifteen painful years, Marcus had lived with a void in his heart. Born Daniel, he and his younger sister Danielle—whom he affectionately called Dany—had been separated by a flawed foster care system after a family tragedy. "It’s really you," Marcus breathed, his voice cracking with emotion. "Dany, I've been looking for you for half my life."

Olivia sobbed, nodding as she tried to sit up. She explained in a rushed, trembling voice that she had been in a terrible car accident a year ago, leaving her with a temporary mobility injury and no family to help her recover. Before they could even embrace, Victoria stepped between them, her high heels clicking sharply on the tile.

"Are you out of your mind, Marcus?" Victoria demanded, her voice dripping with venom. "You’re making a scene with this charity case! Get up right now, we are leaving."

When Marcus refused to budge, Victoria’s anger boiled over. She snatched the gold chain from Marcus's hand. "This trash is what's keeping you here?" she spat, tossing the precious necklace toward a nearby trash bin. It missed and skittered across the floor. Olivia whimpered, reaching out for the only memory of her brother she had kept all these years.

Marcus stood up slowly, his tall frame towering over Victoria. The love he thought he had for his fiancée evaporated in an instant, replaced by a cold, hard clarity. Victoria, sensing his shift in demeanor, scoffed and pulled out her phone. "If you don't throw this girl out of my sight, I will call mall security and have her dragged out for harassment," she threatened.
