As Dr. Evans worked frantically to stabilize the baby, Margaret pulled Clara into a quiet corner of the treatment bay. Her hands were shaking as she held a folder of medical documents. She explained that twenty minutes prior, a young, panicked woman had rushed into the ER with the baby, who was turning blue. The woman claimed she had been paid fifty thousand dollars by a prominent doctor to take the baby out of the state and hand him over to an adoptive family.
