A Ghost in the Kitchen
Edward stood frozen, the tasting spoon still in his hand. The flavor profile of the reduction was unmistakable. It belonged to Marcus Vance, the legendary chef who had mentored Edward decades ago before vanishing into obscurity. Marcus had died a broken man, his brilliant recipes stolen by an unscrupulous competitor. Edward had searched for him for years, to no avail.
Looking closely at the young man, Edward saw the resemblance. "Who are you?" Edward whispered, his voice cracking with emotion.

"My name is Dylan," the young man replied quietly. "Marcus Vance was my father. I took a job here as a dishwasher to find you, Chef Edward. My father always said you were his greatest student, but he also believed you were the one who betrayed him."
"I never betrayed Marcus," Edward said fiercely. "I spent years looking for him! I would have given him everything!"
"I know that now," Dylan said. "I've been watching you. You still cook with his passion. But the man who actually stole my father's recipe book is sitting in your dining room tonight. Arthur Sterling."
Edward’s blood ran cold. Arthur Sterling was the wealthy real estate mogul who owned The Grand Bistro. Before Edward could process the shocking revelation, the kitchen doors swung open. Arthur Sterling walked in, looking pompous and impatient. "Edward! The VIP guests are waiting. Where are the scallops?" Sterling demanded.
Then, Sterling's eyes fell upon Dylan. The wealthy owner stopped dead in his tracks, his face turning a ghostly shade of pale. He stared at Dylan, then at the bottle of reduction on the counter. "You..." Sterling stammered, his arrogant demeanor instantly crumbling. "What is he doing here? Get him out of my kitchen!"
