Thinking quickly, David grabbed Clara’s hand and pulled her toward the heavy metal security door of his pawn shop’s back entrance. He punched in the security code just as the two men sprinted forward. They slammed against the heavy steel door just as the lock clicked into place.

Inside the safety of the shop, David immediately dialed 911, reporting the attempted kidnapping and giving the police the license plate of the black sedan he had memorized. Within minutes, sirens wailed in the distance, and the thugs fled.
