Our Dream Forest Wedding Turned Into a Nightmare When a Black Casket Arrived
The Uninvited Guest
The morning sun filtered gently through the canopy of the birch forest, casting dappled gold light over the clearing. It was supposed to be the perfect day. White orchid arches framed the altar, and rows of dark wooden benches were filled with our closest friends and family. I stood there in my sleeveless white gown, clutching a bouquet of fresh white roses, looking into the eyes of my groom, Thomas. He looked incredibly handsome in his classic black suit, his light-brown hair styled perfectly. Everything was a dream, until the heavy rumble of an engine shattered the peaceful silence of the woods.
A large delivery truck stopped at the edge of the clearing. Two men dressed in plain black jumpsuits unloaded a heavy, wheeled platform. On top of it sat a sleek, polished black casket. To our absolute horror, it was wrapped in a massive, bright red silk bow, like some twisted holiday gift. The delivery men wheeled it silently down the center aisle, placing it directly between us and our guests, before turning and walking away without saying a word.

A collective gasp rippled through the crowd. My mother gasped, clutching her chest, while Thomas’s family stared in absolute shock. But as Thomas and I looked at each other, the sheer absurdity of the situation washed over us. We knew exactly who had sent it—Thomas’s estranged, controlling father, who had vowed to stop our wedding by any means necessary. Instead of crying or screaming, Thomas suddenly broke all decorum. He let out a loud, nervous laugh that sounded like a sneeze, kicking his leg back in pure disbelief. I couldn't contain myself either. I covered my face with my white rose bouquet, my shoulders shaking as I tried to hide my hysterical laughter. For a moment, the dark humor of the moment shielded us from the impending storm. But our laughter was cut short by a sound that made our blood run cold.
A distinct, rhythmic scratching sound was coming from inside the polished wood.
