Previously: When Irene returned home to her loving son, her wealthy eldest brother arrived with the police to arrest her—but her worn handbag held a secret that changed everything.

Before Irene could take a single step toward the front door, the peace of the suburban afternoon was shattered by the harsh screech of tires. A sleek, midnight-black sports car swerved onto the curb, blocking Justin's sedan. Behind it, a local police cruiser pulled up, its blue and red lights flashing silently but menacingly against the suburban homes.

Hannah’s breath caught in her throat as the sports car door flew open. Out stepped Greg, Justin’s wealthy and ruthless older brother. His face was twisted in a triumphant sneer.

The Confrontation in the Driveway

"There she is, officer!" Greg shouted, pointing a finger at his trembling mother. "That's the woman who stole fifty thousand dollars from our late father's trust fund before she fled."

Justin immediately stepped in front of Irene, shielding her with his body.

"What are you doing, Greg? Have you lost your mind?" Justin demanded, his voice shaking with fury. "You kicked her out of her own home, lied to us about her being in a retirement home, and left her to starve in a run-down motel!"

Greg pulled a folded legal document from his tailored jacket, waving it mockingly.

"She signed her house over to me legally, little brother. She was incompetent. And then she robbed the family safe to fund her disappearance," Greg lied smoothly, turning to the police officer. "I want her arrested."

The officer stepped forward, his expression stern. He looked at Irene, who was shrinking back, her knuckles white as she clutched her handbag.

"Ma'am, I need you to hand over that bag so we can verify its contents," the officer said firmly.
"No, please," Irene whimpered, her voice cracking with pure terror. "You don't understand. If I open this, it will destroy everything."

Greg laughed, a cold, mocking sound. "See? She's guilty! Open the bag, Irene, or let the officer do it for you." Hannah watched in horror as the officer reached for Irene's bag.
