Previously: When Lily was a penniless orphan, a kind shoemaker named Arthur gave her a pair of shoes for free. Decades later, as a successful businesswoman, she finally tracks him down to return the favor.

The Search and the Shocking Discovery

It didn't take long for Lily’s resources to yield results, but the news she received shattered her heart. Her adoptive father called her back with a grim voice, explaining that Arthur’s shop had been closed down years ago. A ruthless real estate developer named Richard Vance had bought the block, tripled the rents, and forced the elderly shoemaker into bankruptcy. Arthur and Martha had lost everything, including their modest home, and were now living in a neglected, run-down shelter on the outskirts of the city.

Lily immediately ordered her driver to take her to the address. When she arrived at the dilapidated building, the stench of decay and dampness hung heavy in the air. Inside, the conditions were appalling. In a dark, drafty corner of the main hall, she spotted them. Arthur sat on a rusted metal cot, his hands trembling, wearing a threadbare coat. Martha lay beside him, pale and shivering under a thin blanket.

Before Lily could approach, a loud, abrasive voice cut through the quiet misery of the room. Richard Vance, the very developer who had ruined Arthur years ago, was standing over the elderly couple, flanked by two burly security guards. He threw a stack of eviction papers onto Arthur’s lap with utter contempt.

"You have one hour to pack your trash and get out of here," Richard sneered. "I bought this property this morning, and I'm tearing it down to build luxury condos. Move!"

Arthur looked up, his voice cracking with desperation. "Please, sir, my wife is very sick. Just give us a few days to find somewhere else to go." But Richard only laughed, raising his hand to signal his guards to drag them out. Lily’s blood boiled with a righteous fury she had never felt before. She stepped forward, her heels clicking sharply on the concrete floor as she intercepted the guard.

"Touch them, and I will personally ensure you spend the rest of your life behind bars," Lily declared, her voice cold as ice.

Richard turned around, a smirk on his face as he sized up the elegant woman in the navy suit. "And who do you think you are, lady? I own this building, and I have the legal right to clear out this garbage," he spat, completely unaware of the storm that was about to hit him.
