The Breaking Point

The dining room of the Vance mansion had always been a place of calculated performances, but tonight, the mask had completely slipped. Under the cold, brilliant light of the crystal chandelier, the air was thick with hostility. Natalie stood at the foot of the long mahogany table, her breathing shallow but controlled. Opposite her stood her father, Arthur Vance, his face contorted with a rage she had never seen before. Behind him, her stepmother Victoria and stepsister Claire watched in silence, their eyes glittering with a mixture of shock and poorly concealed satisfaction.

Arthur pointed a trembling, accusatory finger directly at Natalie’s face. "Get out of here!" he roared, his voice echoing off the high ceilings. "And resign as CEO. You are done in this family, and you are done at Vance Enterprises."

Natalie didn't flinch. Slowly, she raised her hand to her face, her fingers gently brushing against a small, stinging cut on her lower lip—a painful reminder of the crystal glass Arthur had shattered against the wall just twenty-four hours prior when she first confronted him about his secret offshore accounts. Instead of showing fear, Natalie let a cold, slow smile spread across her face.

She took a deliberate step forward, pulling her phone from her pocket. She looked Arthur dead in the eye.

"Dad... did you forget?" she asked softly.

Without waiting for a response, she tapped her screen and brought the phone to her ear.

"Evelyn, activate the board's emergency protocol," she commanded.

Victoria gasped loudly, clutching her pearls as she bolted upright from her chair. "Natalie, what are you doing?" she shrieked, her voice cracking with sudden panic.

Natalie didn't give them the satisfaction of an answer. She turned on her heel, her black skirt catching the light as she strode confidently toward the grand glass doors, leaving the stunned silence of the dining room behind her.
