My Father Smiled at My Wedding, But a Secret in His Pocket Shattered Me
Previously: As Grace walked down the aisle with her beaming father, she was sobbing hysterically. She had just discovered a devastating secret hidden in his tuxedo pocket.
The Confrontation at the Altar
As Thomas went to place Grace’s hand into Julian’s, Grace violently pulled back. The warm, celebratory atmosphere of the cathedral instantly froze. The organist stopped playing, leaving a heavy, suffocating silence hanging in the air. Julian’s handsome face stiffened, his perfect smile faltering. Eleanor leaned forward, her eyes narrowing in sudden alarm.
Grace reached into her father’s tuxedo pocket and pulled out the thick white envelope. She held it high for the entire congregation of high-society guests to see. Thomas looked at her, his eyes widening in sheer panic as he realized what she had found.

"Grace, please, don't do this," Thomas whispered, his voice cracking with desperation. "I did it for you. Just let it go and be happy."
But Grace could not let it go. She looked at Julian, her voice ringing clear and loud through the silent cathedral. "Did you know about this, Julian? Did you know your mother blackmailed my seventy-one-year-old father into giving up his home and life savings just so I could be deemed 'worthy' of your family?"
Julian shifted uncomfortably, avoiding her gaze. "Grace, let's not make a scene. We can discuss this privately after the vows." His cold, dismissive tone gave her the answer she dreaded. He knew. He had allowed his mother to rob her father blind.
Eleanor stood up, her face pale but her voice dripping with venom. "That is a private legal matter, young lady. You are being hysterical. Think of your future!"
Grace looked at the woman who had extorted her father, and then at the man she had loved. With trembling hands, she tore the envelope in half, throwing the pieces at Julian’s feet. "My future does not belong to monsters," Grace declared, her voice echoing off the ancient stone walls. "This wedding is over."
