Previously: When Dean, the most feared inmate in the yard, tried to intimidate Jade, he thought she would break. Instead, she stood her ground, holding a secret that could destroy his entire empire.

A Dangerous Leverage

Dean’s face contorted with rage. The cheers of the inmates were an insult to his authority, a direct threat to the fear he spent years cultivating. He stepped closer, his chest pressing against her shoulder, trying to use his massive weight to force her to the ground. "You think you're brave, little girl?" he growled, his voice a low hiss. "I can snap you in half before the guards even turn their heads."

Jade didn't flinch. Instead, she leaned in, her voice barely a whisper, yet carrying a weight that chilled Dean to the bone.

"You could,"
she whispered,
"but then who would stop the federal prosecutors from opening the safe box in downtown Chicago? The one containing the ledger of your external operations."

Dean froze. The color drained from his face, leaving him looking suddenly pale beneath his tattoos. The ledger she referred to was his life insurance—and his greatest vulnerability. It detailed every dollar smuggled, every guard bribed, and the names of the powerful cartel leaders he served on the outside. If that ledger came to light, Dean wouldn't just face a longer sentence; his life would be forfeit.

"How do you know about that?" Dean demanded, his voice trembling with a mixture of anger and genuine panic. He grabbed her arm, his grip like iron, but Jade's expression remained icy.

"I was the forensic accountant they hired to hide it,"
Jade revealed, her eyes burning with quiet triumph.
"Before I was framed and sent here to keep me quiet. I know every account, Dean. And I have a lawyer on the outside who gets a call from me every single day. If I miss that call, the ledger goes to the FBI."

The giant was trapped. He was caught between maintaining his brutal reputation in the yard and saving his own life from the ruthless syndicate waiting for him to slip up.
