Previously: On the day of her lavish wedding, Rachel flings her bouquet at the coordinator—only to realize he is her long-lost first love, harboring a dark secret about her fiancé.

Secrets in the Vestry

Pretending she needed to adjust her veil, Rachel managed to slip away from her bridesmaids and beckoned Ethan into the quiet, candle-lit vestry. The heavy oak doors shut out the sounds of the gathering guests, leaving only the tense, heavy silence between them. Rachel turned to him, her hands trembling so violently she could barely stand.

"Why are you here, Ethan?" she demanded, her voice cracking with a decade of unshed tears. "You walked out on me. You disappeared without a single word, and now you show up as my wedding coordinator?"

Ethan looked at her, his hazel eyes swimming with agony. He reached into his pocket and pulled out a faded, folded piece of paper, handing it to her. It was a letter, written in what looked exactly like Rachel’s handwriting, stating that she was embarrassed by his lack of ambition and never wanted to see him again.

"I never walked out on you, Rachel," Ethan said softly. "Your mother and Julian brought me this letter ten years ago. They told me you were moving on. Julian offered to pay off my mother’s terminal cancer treatments, but only if I signed a non-disclosure agreement and left the state forever. I thought I was saving my mother and letting you go to the life you wanted."

Rachel stared at the forged letter, her stomach turning. Before she could speak, the vestry door banged open. Julian strode in, his handsome face twisted in a sneer, followed closely by Rachel’s mother.

"What is going on in here?" Julian demanded, his wealthy facade slipping to reveal a harsh, controlling anger. He glared at Ethan. "I paid you to stay out of our lives, you parasite. Get out before I have my security throw you into the street."

Rachel’s mother gasped, trying to grab Julian’s arm to silence him, but the damage was already done. The truth hung in the air, cold and undeniable.
