Previously: When the kingdom's greatest champion failed to draw the legendary sword from the stone, a dirt-smudged orphan stepped forward to try his hand—and changed the course of history forever.

The True King's Mercy

With a roar of frustration, Borin lunged forward, his heavy sword swinging in a deadly arc aimed directly at Arthur’s chest. But as the steel neared the boy, the legendary blade in Arthur's hand seemed to move of its own accord. It rose to meet Borin's strike with blinding speed. The collision of the two weapons released a blinding flash of golden energy that rippled outward, knocking the giant champion off his feet and sending his broadsword clattering across the stone floor. The remaining knights gasped, dropping back in terror as the shockwave left them trembling.

Borin lay on the cold ground, his armor dented and his pride shattered. He looked up at the boy he had mocked, expecting the fatal blow. But Arthur did not strike. Instead, he lowered the glowing sword, pointing the tip safely toward the earth. He stepped forward and extended his grimy, calloused left hand to help his fallen commander up.

"True strength is not found in the weight of your armor or the violence of your words, Borin,"
Arthur said softly, his voice carrying an innate authority that demanded respect.
"It is found in the heart of those who wish to protect, not conquer."

Deeply moved by the boy's grace and the undeniable power of the blade, one by one, the elite knights sheathed their weapons and sank to their knees, bowing their heads in true allegiance to their new leader. Borin, staring at the extended hand, finally swallowed his pride and took it, rising as a follower rather than a master. In that quiet, foggy canyon, the era of tyrants ended, and the reign of a true, compassionate king began, proving that greatness is never inherited by force, but earned through humility and a noble soul.
